Acidity Test Kit
Acidity can be caused by mineral or organic acids, or by carbon dioxide as Carbonic Acid. Acidity of aqueous solutions contributes to corrosion and influences the rate of biological processes.
The HI-3820 acidity test kit makes monitoring quick, easy and safe.
During testing, when colour change is achieved, under careful conditions - usually using a burette – the reagent is added, drop by drop, until the solution turns to the colour required. The user will then count how many drops of reagent were used to achieve complete colour change. The number of drops used will determine the chemical concentration and results can be found in the manual included.
However, the compact size gives the user the versatility to use this kit anywhere.
With the use of diluted sodium hydroxide as the titrant and bromophenol blue or phenolphthalein indicators, the contribution of strong or organic acids can be determined.
The measurement of the strong acid contribution to the sample acidity is known as methyl orange acidity. This is carried out by titrating with sodium hydroxide until the solution turns from yellow to green/blue (pH endpoint about 4.5). The total acidity caused by both mineral and organic acids is determined by titrating to an endpoint pH of 8.3, using phenolphthalein as an indicator. This is known as phenolphthalein inacidity.
